Leading think tanks from Europe and India come together in Delhi to discuss “EU and India: partners for stability in a new international environment”

NEW DELHI, 13 September 2018. Five consortia comprising of leading think tanks from India and the European Union will present the findings of their joint research on selected topics from the field of foreign and security policy at a workshop to be held in Delhi on Thursday 13 September 2018 under the auspices of the EU India Think Tanks Twinning Initiative.

This initiative brings together the leading think tanks to develop ideas on how to further advance on the EU-India's long-standing strategic partnership through enhanced cooperation in the fields of foreign and security policy, global governance and international affairs.

The think tanks will also present their papers to a public audience at a symposium “EU and India: partners for stability in a new international environment.” The Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Ambassador Ruchi Ghanshyam will deliver the keynote speech. The Ambassador of the European Union to India, Mr. Tomasz Kozlowski, will make the opening presentation.

The EU India Think Tanks Twinning Initiative was launched in 2015 to discuss the enhancing of EU-India security cooperation. Five consortia of EU and Indian think tanks have been selected for participation during the 2018-19 round. This second phase of the initiative was launched in early 2018 with a think tank conference in the margins of the leading Indian strategic forum Raisina Dialogue.

  • Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) –Global Policy Institute, London and Federal Trust for Education and Research, UK: European and Indian Perceptions of the Belt and Road Initiative
  • Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) – Centre for International Relations (CSM) Poland: China’s Evolving BRI: India’s and EU’s Perspective
  • Observer Research Foundation (ORF), Chatham House, London and EU Institute of Security Studies, Brussels: East Africa, India and Europe: norms to supercharge Indian Ocean commerce
  • Global Public Policy Institute (GPPI) Berlin - Carnegie India: Charting EU-India Cooperation on Connectivity
